How I'm Using Essential Oils

I've suffered from migraines all my life and last year I set out to get them under control naturally. This included trying essential oils.  Now a year later, here's how I'm still using essential oils today.

In a Diffuser

This is probably my favorite way to use essential oils. I keep a diffuser in my living room and bedroom and use both daily. Often I add essential oil blends listed below to help with allergies or prevent a cold, but I also like to diffuse oils to freshen a room, like peppermint with wild orange. Truth be told, I'd like to have a diffuser in every room including at the office. Here are the two diffusers I have today.

The lotus looking diffuser is larger and holds more water. It's also more colorful. It's a plastic diffuser, but looks like wood. It can be a bit more tricky to fill. If I don't set the water tank just right, it will overflow and must be emptied some before it works correctly.

The real bamboo diffuser is a bit easier to use. You just lift the top off, pour water in it up to the line and add a few drops. It has timers too which is super nice.

Peppermint Oil

I keep this oil with me everyday as I uses it anytime a headache is coming on. I dab it on my forehead, temples and back of neck. It has a cooling effect and seems to help nip the headache in its track. I've used doTERRA's peppermint essential oil for headaches, but I also have Now Foods Peppermint Oil which I use in a diffuser.

Melaleuca Oil

I keep Melaleuca, also known as tea tree, in the bathroom and dab on blemishes as needed after washing my face and before applying moisturizer. In my experience, it's more effective than the traditional acne ointments and less harsh. I use doTERRA Melaleuca.

Breath Blend

I have a history of sinus infections and had taken allergy medicines for years. Last year I gave that all up as part of a spring detox and quest to get my headaches under control. doTERRA's Breath Blend has become part of my daily ritual. I just add a few drops with water and diffuse for about an hour.

On Guard Blend

If I feel a cold coming on, I add a few drops of doTERRA's On Guard Blend to the diffuser. I'm happy to report that I've been cold/flu free this past winter, outside of a cough that lasted two days.

Lavender Oil

I like to use Lavender essential oil at night. I dab it on my wrists and feet before bed. Lavender is very calming and smells great too.  doTERRA Lavender
